Course Review – Coyote Lakes Golf Course

This course was built in 1993 alongside the Aqua Fria River with its rolling terrain. Five tranquil lakes and desert sand dunes provide endless serenity and breathtaking vistas. The course combines Arizona landscaping with Scottish- links design. The greens are large with a lot of contour and will challenge golfers of all skills. Coyote Lakes has optimum landing areas that are always in clear view from elevated tees. Generally, the approach shots are to modestly guarded and elevated greens. The few mandatory forced carry tee shots over natural arroyos are very manageable but are more challenging from the championship tee box. The front nine is good; but, the back nine is even better. In a setting resembling a desert park, water constantly comes into play on the back nine. Don’t let the short distance of Coyote Lakes fool you; the creative Par 71 layout will challenge all levels of golfers. In order to score well you’ll need tee box accuracy, fairway strategy, dexterous irons, a practiced sand wedge, and a finely tuned putter. There are several holes on the back nine that could be considered signature holes , especially the fabulous 18th finishing hole. The most unusual hole is number 6. The 546 yard par 5 has a 12 foot cobblestone retaining wall that cuts across the entire fairway about 50 yards before the green, combining anticipation with paralysis on the approach shot.
